"I started training at Broome County Martial Arts in January of 2017. At this time I was just shy of 230lbs and in the worst shape of my life. I had a hard time making it through an entire training session without taking a break or using my inhaler. Around July I decided that I needed to make some changes in order to better my health. I started eating a healthy balanced diet and training 2-3 times a week, as well as taking private lessons with Coach Dylan. It was not an easy task but I had set a goal in my mind and was determined to achieve it. Everyone at the academy was extremely supportive and willing to help me achieve my goals. They offered advice and tips on following a healthy diet and exercise. After 9 months of training I competed in my first tournament at 165 lbs. I have tried numerous fad diets and exercise plans but there is nothing that compares to getting on the mats and putting the work in. Jiu Jitsu has been the most effective workout I have ever done and I have a blast training. There is no way I could have lost the weight and maintained a healthier lifestyle without the support and guidance from all the instructors and fellow students at BCMA.
